1 MAN
Le MAN (metropolitan area network) est un réseau permettant de connecter les usagers dans une zone géographique plus étendue que celle du LAN (local area network) et inférieure à celle du WAN (wide area network). Des MAN existent par exemple à Paris (France), Londres (Royaume-Uni), Lodz (Pologne) et Genève (Suisse). Dans un MAN, la connexion à l’internet sans fil est régie par le standard de transmission radio 802.16 de l’IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), l’organisme international de normalisation dans ce domaine. -

(wide area network)Le WAN (wide area network) est un réseau permettant de connecter les usagers à l’internet sans fil dans un secteur géographique supérieur à celui du MAN (metropolitan area network) qui, lui, connecte les usagers à l’échelle d’une ville. Un LAN (local area network) est un réseau local permettant la connexion à l’internet (ou l’intranet) d’équipements informatiques situés dans un rayon géographique limité, par exemple ceux d’une maison, d’une entreprise ou d’une université.
