Nota d'usoQuando si parla del testo di una canzone in inglese si utilizza il termine “lyrics” (al plurale): Non capisco il testo di questa canzone, I don't understand this song's lyrics (non I don't understand this song's text). Quando “lyric” è usato al singolare si riferisce a un verso di una canzone. Il sostantivo “text”, invece, designa genericamente un testo scritto per essere letto (non cantato): Il testo in questa fotocopia è troppo chiaro, si legge male, the text in this handout is too faint to read; Questo sarà il vostro libro di testo, this will be your textbook; Un testo chiave della filosofia ottocentesca, a key text of 19th-century philosophy. Testo e “text” non sono sempre intercambiabili, in quanto in inglese di solito si tende a specificare il tipo di testo: Per casa leggete questo testo, for your homework, please read this extract/article. Inoltre, la parola “text” in inglese significa anche SMS. -
