Skt. śata-gu- `possessing hundred cows',, evtl. through *śata-gv-a-, śata-gv-ín- `id.'; with thematic vowel in the PN Dáśa-gv-a-, Náva-gv-a- for `having ten, nine cows'. - Of old explained as `sacrifice of hundred cows'.
