קִשְׁקֵשI ( קשש; cmp. כִּשְׁכֵּש) 1) to knock, strike, shake, tingle. Sot.9b (ref. to לפעמו, Jud. 13:25) שהיתה שכינה מְקַשְׁקֶשֶׁתוכ׳ the Divine Presence rang before him as with a bell (v. פַּעֲמוֹן); Gen. R. s. 18 לקַשְׁקֵש ‘Rashi, v. נָקַש. Yalk. Ps. 862, v. קִרְקִש. Y.Sabb.II, 5b bot. כיון … מקשקשת עיסתהוכ׳ when the woman slaps her dough with water (v. לָטַש, a. קָטַף); Gen. R. s. 14, beg. מְשַׁקְשֶׁקֶת; Yalk. ib. 20; 32; Tanḥ. Noah 1 (ed. Ib. תשמטנה מלְקַשְׁקֵשוכ׳ ‘thou shalt let it rest (Ex. 23:11) from hoeing ; Succ.44b; Yalk. Ex. 354 (corr. acc.); a. e. Hithpa. הִתְקַשְׁקֵש to be shaken; to clap, ring. Ḥull.74b כאגוז המִתְקַשְׁקֵשוכ׳ like a nut that rattles in its shell. Ib. 94a לגין המתקשקש a bottle which gives a sound when shaken (half-filled). Ib. 125a מוח המתק׳ brain that shakes in the skull; a. e.Nidd.47a משיִתְקַשְׁקְשוּ הדדין when the breasts begin to shake (in walking), comment.; v., however, קִשְׁקֵש II.

קַשְׁקֵשch. same, 1) to knock, strike, ring. Targ. Y. Gen. 43:33. 2) to hoe. Succ.44b לקַשְׁקוּשֵׁי כרמיא Ms. M. (ed. כרמים) to hoe in vineyards. Ib. ומְקַשְׁקְשִׁין בכרמיא and hoe in Ib. וקַשְׁקוּשֵׁי מי שרי is it permitted to hoe (in the Sabbatical year)?; (M. Kat. 3a וקִשְׁקוּש בשביעיתוכ׳).

קִשְׁקֵשII (v. קָשַׁש II) to straighten, shoot forth. Tosef.Erub.IX (VI), 26, v. קָשַׁט. Hithpa. הִתְקַשְׁקֵש to become stiff, hard, be erected. Nidd.47a משיִתְקַשְׁקְשוּ הדדין when the breasts become stiff; (Tosef. ib. VI, 4 משיִתְקַשּׁוּ; Var. משיתקשקשו).

גָּשַׁש(b. h.; v. גּוּש) to touch a substance, to strike against. Ḥall. II, 2; Y. ib. 58c top הספינה גוֹשֶׁשֶׁת the ship touches the ground (in harbor). Pi. גִּישֵּׁש to feel, grope. Y.Yoma V, 42c היה מְגַשֵּׁשוכ׳ entered groping Pilp. גִּשְׁגֵּש (cmp. קשקש, כשכש) to beat, ring. Lev. I, 15 והמְנַכֵּש and he who does the weeding (in a field of mixed seeds); M. Kat. 2b; a. fr. B. Bath.54a Ms. R., v. מַכּוֹש I. Hif. הִכִּיש 1) to strike, wound, sting. B. Mets.30b; B.
