מְאִיסָהf. (מָאַס) rejection, contempt; use of the verb מָאַס. Lam. R. to V, 20; Pesik. R. s. 31; Yalk. Is. 332. Lam. R. to V, 22 (ret to מאס ib.) אם מ׳ לית היא סברוכ׳ if it be a rejection, there is no hope (of a reconciliation), but if it be anger, there is hope.

Ḥull.131b וכולן …מ״ט ע׳ כתיב בהו and from all of them the owner must not derive the benefit of putting a person under obligation (v. טוֹבָה), because ‘abandoning (עזב) is written about them (Lev. l. c.). Y.Peah IV, end, 19a שהן בע׳ they must be abandoned. Ib. V, beg.19b (ref. to תעזב אתם, Lev. l. c.) יש לך ע׳ אחרת כזו (it intimates that) there is another abandonment like this (renouncing ones property in favor of the poor, v. הֶפְקֵר). Y.Ned.XI, 42c bot. מעשר עני ניתן בזכייה ואלו בע׳ the tithe of the poor is given to the poor by way of a transfer (to a certain person), bat these (gifts) are abandoned (the owner having no right of disposal). 2) forsaking. Lam. R. to V, 20 ארבעה דברים … מאיסה וגעילה ע׳ ושכיחה Jeremiah used four expressions: rejection, loathing, forsaking, and forgetting. Gen. R. s. 69 (ref. to Gen. 28:15) אין ע׳ אלא פרנסה forsaking refers to sustenance (with ref. to Ps. 37:25); Lev. R. s. 35; a. e. 3) shunning, unworthiness. Ned.22a (in Chald. Dict.) מלין דע׳ things which must be shunned (indecencies); (Ar. מלין דעֲזוּבָה things worthy of an abandoned woman).
