כָּפַף

כָּפַף(b. h.) 1) to bend, curve. Gen. R. s. 87, end כּוֹפֶפֶת אני את קומתך … כְּפוּפִים (Potiphars wife said to Joseph) I shall bend thy proud stature (humiliate thee with slave labor); said he, The Lord erects those who are bowed down. B. Kam.55b הכּוֹפֵף … בפניוכ׳ he who bends his neighbors grain stalks before the fire (so as to make them catch fire). Num. R. s. 6, beg. נביא כופף ידיווכ׳ the prophet must bend his hands and feet to sit before (surrender his power to) the high priest; (Y.Hor.III, 48b bot. מְכַפֵּת). Cant. R. beg. לָכוֹף אזניךוכ׳ to bend thy ear and listen; a. fr.Part. pass. כָּפוּף, f. כְּפוּפָה, pl. כְּפוּפִים, כְּפוּפִין; כְּפוּפוֹת. (כַּפְכָּף) כַּבְכָּב m. (reduplic. of כבב or כפף, v. כְּבַב) an arched round vessel. Kel. II, 3 כ׳ שעשאו לסל הפת a kabkab which was intended for a cover for the bread-basket (and not as a receptacle). Tosef. ib. B. Kam. II, 5 כסוי כ׳ וכסוי אלפס ed. Zuck. (ed. only כסוי אלפס) the lid of a k. and that of a pot. Ib. 8 העשוי לכך ולכך בגון הכ׳וכ׳ R. S. to Kel. III, 1 (ed. Succ.III, 11 מקום … לִכְפּוֹל יִכְפּוֹל where it is customary to recite twice (each verse of Ps. 118:21–29), let one do so. B. Mets.4a הכּוֹפֵר במלוה he who denied having received a loan (and was refuted before being sworn, v. הֶיסֵּת). Ib. על מה שכ׳וכ׳ he is sworn on what he denied.
