זְמֵיII (cmp. זמם I a. דמי) to think. Denom. זִימְיוֹנָא.

זְמֵיI, זְמָא (v. זָמַם II) to bind over, to fine (cmp. אסר, חוב). Targ. Y. Deut. 22:19 (h. text ענש). Af. אַזְמֵי same. Ruth R. to I, 1 יזמי להין, read מַזְמֵי he (the Roman officer) fines them; Yalk. Prov. 959 מומי להון (corr. מז׳); Pesik. Shek., p. 11b> ומומיה ליה, Ms. O. ומזמי ליה; Yalk. Ex. 386 (corr. acc.). Ithpa. אִזְדְּמֵי to be fined; to lose. Lev. R. s. 34 דבני אחתיה מִזְדַּמְיָיןת״שוכ׳ Ar. (ed. מתבעין מן מלכותא) that his sisters son will be fined (or lose) seven hundred Denars. Ib. או אתון מארמאין (read: מִזְדַּמָּאִין, Ithpa.; Yalk. Lev. 665 מזדמיין) or you will pay Ib. דילמא … דאנן מז׳ (Yalk. l. c. דאינון, corr. acc.) didst thou know that we are destined to lose ?
