    דִּקְדֵּק(Pilp. of דוק or דקק) 1) to crush, grind; v. Nithpa.Part. pass, מְדוּקְדָּק broken, humiliated, afflicted. Ex. R. s. 31 מדו׳ בעניות afflicted with poverty. Gen. R. s. 100 עני מדו׳ a very poor man. 2) to even a woof by beating. Tosef.Sabb.VIII (IX):2; Sabb.75b; 97b (v. Rashi a. l.). 3) to examine minutely, search, investigate (charity cases); to trace genealogical records (corresp. to בָּדַק); in gen. to be very strict in religious observances; (with עם) to deal strictly with (esp. used of divine retribution). Y.Peah VIII, 21a מְדַקְדְּקִין בכסותוכ׳ you must make inquiries if one asks for clothes, but you must not, if food is asked for; Lev. R. s. 34 (B.
