זָהַר(b. h.; cmp., זהה) 1) to shine; v. זָהוֹר, זְהוֹרִית. 2) to look out, beware, be strict (corresp. to b. h. שָׁמַר); v. זָהִיר. Pi. זִהֵר to brighten. Midr. Till. to Ps. 90:16 וזִהֲּרוֹ and brightened his countenance. Nif. הִזָּהֵר (= b. h. הִשָׁמֵר) to be careful, be strict; to beware, take heed. Ber.8b הִזָּהֲרוּ בורידין be careful to cut the jugular veins, v. וָרִיד. כַּשְׂכֵּשׂ (transpos. of שכשך, v. סִכְסֵךְ I) to entangle, catch, confound. Koh. R. to IV, 14 (ref. to בית הסורים ib.) דהוא מְכַשְׂכֵּשׂ לברייתא כמן ביני סריאתא he (the seducer) catches the people like one coming forth from between the bushes; Midr. Till. to Ps. 9. -

לְקַשch. sam( Hif. הִלְקִיש to retard), Pa. לַקֵּיש to be late, tired. Targ. Y., Gen. 30:42 לַקּוּשֵׁי (infin., not ל׳), v. לַקִּישוּתָא. Af. אַלְקֵש as preced. Hif. 2. Yalk. Ps. 855 (ref. to יעטף, v. preced.) דהוא אתי ומַלְקֵש לה for he (the poor man) comes (to prayer late) and goes through it in a state of exhaustion.
