Kühner-Bl. I 510f), ὁ the moth, whose larvae eat clothing (Menand., Fgm.538, 5 Kö.=540, 5 Kock; Lucian, Ep. Sat. 1, 21 ἱμάτια ὑπὸ σητῶν διαβρωθέντα) Mt 6:19f; Lk 12:33. Being eaten by moths as a symbol of feebleness and destruction 1 Cl 39:5 (Job 4:19); B 6:2 (Is 50:9).—Worms, specific. wood-worms, seem to be meant (cp. Philo, Somn. 1, 77), since the σής is damaging sticks Hs 8, 1, 6f; 8, 4, 5; 8, 6, 4.—DELG. M-M. TW. -
