σῑνέομαι, beschädigen, verheeren, verwüsten -

σίνομαι, ion. σινέομαι (s. oben),gew. nur praes. u. impf., Her. 8, 31 hat auch den aor. ἐσινάμην, wegrauben, Menschen od. Vieh als Beute wegschleppen, also von räuberischen od. sonst feindseligen Anfällen; bei Hom. immer von lebenden Wesen: ὅτε μοι σίνοιτό γ' ἑταίρους, Od. 12, 114, wenn sie (die Skylla) mir die Gefährten wegraffen od. räuberisch anfallen sollte; eben so von den Kyklopen, οἵ σφεας σινέσκοντο, welche die Phäaken räuberisch anzufallen pflegten, 6, 6; vom Raube der Rinder des Helios durch Odysseus, 11, 112. 12, 139. – Bei Her. gew. von dem Schaden, den ein Kriegsheer dem andern zufügt, σίνεσϑαι τὸν στρατόν, τοὺς πολεμίους μέγα ἐσινέατο, μεγάλως Ἀϑηναίους ἐσινέοντο, Her. 1, 17. 5, 27. 81. 7, 147. 9, 49. 51; Xen. An. 3, 4, 16, wo die v. l. ἐπέκειντο ist. – Auch von leblosen Dingen, wie οὐ σινέσκετο καρπόν, Hes. frg. 2, 3; γῆν, χώραν σίνεσϑαι, ein Land berauben, ausplündern, Her. 6, 97. 8, 31. 9, 13. 31; Xen. Cyr. 3, 3, 15. 5, 5, 4; πολεμίους, Lac. 12, 5. – Uebh. beschädigen, unglücklich machen, im Ggstz von ὀνίνημι, αἰδὼς ἄνδρας μέγα σίνεται ἠδ' ὀνίνησιν, Il. 24, 45; Hes. O. 320; oft bei Her. u. den Att., ἐὰν ὑποζύγιον σίνηταί τι τῶν πέλας, Plat. Legg. XI, 936 e; Xen. Equit. 12, 9; verwunden, Her. 2, 68. – Das act. scheint nicht vorzukommen, aber Orph. Arg. 211, σίνετο δὲ σφυρὰ δισσά, ist es passivisch, = ἐβλάφϑη zu nehmen, er war an beiden Füßen beschädigt, wie sich auch das perf. σεσιμμένος in einer Inschrift findet.
