123 ἑλίκωψ
Grammatical information: adj.Meaning: said of the Άχαιοι,Other forms: always plur. nom. or acc. - ωπες, - ωπας (Il., verse end), f. ἑλικῶπις, - ιδος (Α 98 κούρη, Hes. Th. 298 νύμφη; also Sapph., Pi.).Origin: GR [a formation built with Greek elements]X [probably]Etymology: From ἕλιξ (s. d.) and ὠπ- (on the 2. member Schwyzer 426 n. 4, Sommer Nominalkomp. 1), so prop. `with eyes that make a turn', i. e. `with curved eyes'; like ἑλικο-βλέφαρος (h. Hom. 6, 19 etc.) `beautifully(?) curved eyes' (cf. H. ἑλικοβλέφαρος καλλιβλέφαρος)? Bechtel Lex., Düntzer KZ 12, 17. Diff. Prellwitz Glotta 15, 128ff.: "with curls" (cf. H. ἑλίκωπες οὑλότριχες). - The interpretation `with rolling = quickly moving (lively) eyes' (s. Bq; also Brouzas ProceedAmPhilAss. 1930, p. XXVIIf.) is based on ἑλίσσω, hardly correct. On the basis of ἑλίκωπες as μελανόφθαλμοι in H. an adjective ἑλικός = μέλας was coined; thus, except H., Call. Fr. 299 a. o., s. Leumann Hom. Wörter 152 n. 126. - See also Grošelj Slavistična Revija 1954, 122f.Page in Frisk: 1,494-495Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > ἑλίκωψ

One considers Germanic and Slavic names for cherry (as used for preparing bird-lime), e. g. OHG wīhsela `morello', Russ. etc. víšnja `cherry'. 125 λιβρός
Grammatical information: adj.Meaning: adjunct of ὀλός ('turbid liquidity' AP 15, 25, 1), of νύξ (EM 564, 49: `dark' or `humid'), of σέλας ( Trag. Adesp. 232); by Erot. explained as σκοτεινὸς καὶ μέλας (to Hp. Aër. 15, where codd. διερῳ̃ and θολερῳ̃, of ἠήρ?).Other forms: with nasal λιμβρός (EM564, 52; Suid.)Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]X [probably]Etymology: "The usual connection with λείβω presupposes a semantic shift which is possible with this poetic and rare word." (Frisk). Fur. 287 n. 68 notes that the prenasalization could be due to late-Greek\/Byzantine nasalization. (I see nothing in Fur. 240, 287: comparison with λιαρός.)Page in Frisk: 2,120-121Greek-English etymological dictionary (Ελληνικά-Αγγλικά ετυμολογική λεξικό) > λιβρός

Often as "meal-fruit" drawn to Lat. molō `meal' etc.; acc. to Niedermann Symb. Rozwadowski 1, 113 however to μέλας (cf. Fr. millet noir, G. Mohrenhirse); thus Porzig Gliederung 178 (opposed to ἄλφι to ἀλφός `white'). Is the word Pre-Greek? 128 μολοβρός
Grammatical information: m.Meaning: scornful or ignominious qualification, by the goat-herd Melanthos and the beggar Iros referred to the unknown Odysseus (ρ 219, σ 26; after this Lyc. 775); also of the head ( κεφαλή) of a plant in unknown meaning (Nic. Th. 662).Derivatives: μολόβρ-ιον n. `the young of a swine' (Ael.), - ίτης ὗς `ds.' (Hippon.). -- PN Μόλοβρος m. (Th. 4, 8, 9; Lacon.).Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]Etymology: Popular word, because of the uncertain meaning hard to assess. Several proposals of doubtful value from old and new times: ἀπὸ τοῦ μολεῖν καὶ παραγίνεσθαι πρὸς βορὰν καὶ τροφήν (sch. Lyc. 775); from μέλας, μολύνω and τὰ ὄβρια, ὀβρίκαλα `the young of animals' (Curtius 370); to βλιβρόν λαγρόν H. and βλάβη (Fick BB 28, 97; agreeing Bechtel Lex. s.v. and Hist. Personennamen 502); from *μολός `runner, shoot' (cf. μολεύω) and βορά (Grošelj Živa Ant. 2, 212f.); s. also Reynen Herm. 85, 142 w. n. 2. - Neumann HS 105(1992) 75-80 derives it form *μολος, Skt. málam `dirt' (from * melo- or * molHo-) and the root * gʷrh₃- `eat' in βιβρώσκω; but -*gʷr̥Ho- would have given *-βαρο-.
