(rarely sg.) `boasting' (A.), κομπασμός `ostentation' (Plu.), κομπασία `sounding, striking' (pap.), κομπαστής `parader' (Ph., Plu.) with κομπαστικός (Poll.), κόμπασος (Hdn.), Κομπασεύς `who would belong to the Κόμπος-district' (Ar.). 3. κομπόω (Pass.) `show off' (D. C.).Origin: ONOM [onomatopoia, and other elementary formations]Etymology: No etymology, prob. onomatopoetic; cf. on βόμβος, κόναβος and κόμβα. Wrong IE. interpretations in Bq.
