Hipp. 975. – Die Formen τίς und τί nehmen niemals den Gravis an. – Auf die Construction des Satzes hat das Wort niemals auch nur den geringsten Einfluß; sondern für jedes beliebige Nomen tritt die entsprechende Form von τίς ein, ohne die mindeste Aenderung der Construction. Diese Regel gilt aber nicht bloß für τίς, sondern für alle Griechischen Fragewörter, mutatis mutandis; die fragenden Adverbien, mit denen Ergänzungsfragen gebildet werden, wie πῶς, ποῦ, treten für Adverbien oder ihnen syntactisch gleichwerthige Ausdrücke, z. B. Präpositionen mit Casus ein, ohne Aenderung der Construction; die fragenden Adverbien, mit denen Entscheidungsfragen gebildet werden, wie ἆρα, ἦ, εἰ, πότερον, treten ohne Aenderung der Construction ein, verdrängen aber kein Wort, weil keines da ist, welches sie verdrängen könnten. Man mag die Regel ganz allgemein so ausdrücken: Im Griechischen darf für jedes Wort ein fragendes Correlativum eintreten, ohne Aenderung der Construction; ἆρα ἐνίκησε z. B. ist fragendes Correlativum zu dem nicht fragenden ἐνίκησε. Dasselbe läßt sich auch so ausdrücken: Im Griechischen werden alle Fragen genau so construirt wie die zugehörigen Antworten. In diesem Sachverhalte liegt auch der Grund, weshalb ein Satz, wie oben bemerkt, mehrere Fragen enthalten kann; man faßt das gewöhnlich sehr verkehrt als »Verschränkung« von Sätzen auf; der Sprechende macht aber ganz einfach von seinem Rechte Gebrauch, für jedes Wort ein fragendes Correlativum eintreten zu lassen. Τίς τί πότε πῶς ἐποίει ist gutes Griechisch, und ein einziger, auch ursprünglich nur ein einziger Satz, keine Mischung von Sätzen.
