Δῐώνῡσος, Διόνῡσος (Διώνυσος, -ου, -οιο; Διονύσου, -ον.) son of Zeus and Semele, god of wine, in whose honour the dithyramb was sung (O. 13.18, fr. 75. 9—12.) companion of Demeter (I. 7.5), called also Bromios, Eriboas, and ?Lyaios. The story of his capture by pirates whom he turned into dolphins (Hom.
