2 Wet Doubling
A term applied to cotton yarn doubling frames wherein the yarns to be doubled are passed through a water trough between the creel and the delivery rollers. Pure water may be used or a solution which aids or accelerates wetting out of the yarns. In the English system the threads pass under one or two glass rods submerged in the liquid in the trough. In the Scotch system the bottom delivery rollers are partly submerged in the liquid. The object in wetting the threads and twisting them while wet is to produce a smoother and cleaner surface appearance with fewer projecting fibres. -

12 Doubling (Dry And Wet)
DOUBLING (Dry and Wet).Dry doubling is carried on for yarn that is required oozy after twisting, such as for hosiery, also if to be bleached or dyed. This system leaves the thread in an open condition. Wet doubling produces a smooth and clean yarn and the liquid used causes the fibres to adhere to the body of the thread, while the twisting process also binds them together to give a more solid structure and increases the strength. Water only is used for counts up to about 2/60's, but for the finer counts it is usual to add a soap or special solution.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Doubling (Dry And Wet)

13 Linen Yarn Counts (Fine Or Wet Spun)
The basis for counting linen yarns is fixed by Act of Parliament. The reel is 90-in. in circumference. The count is the number of leas of 300 yards that weigh 1-lb. Linen yarns are sold by the bundle of 200 leas, and a number of bundles, varying with the weight, are made into a "bunch". Thus 14's is made into 11/2-bundle bunches, 24's into 3-bundle bunches, 30's into 6-bundle bunches, and so on. The Dorset and Somerset system takes the weight of 21,600 yards (called " dozen " or 12 half-hanks of 1,800 yards each). In France the pacquet contains 260,000 yards. In Belgium the pacquet contains 180,000 yards. Metric system - The counts indicate the number of kilometres (1,000 metres) of yarn in one kilogram (2.2-lb.)Dictionary of the English textile terms > Linen Yarn Counts (Fine Or Wet Spun)
