Отпуск* * *HOLIDAY, VACATIONСуществительные holiday и vacation, означающие 'отпуск, каникулы', отличаются друг от друга по употреблению. Vacation(s) употребляется только в применении к высшим учебным заведениям и судебным органам; holiday не имеет указанных ограничений. Holiday означает 'отпуск' (а также 'день отдыха'): he has a month's holiday и Sunday is a holiday. Holidays передается русским 'каникулы': summer (winter) holidays. Русскому 'поехать в отпуск' соответствуют to go on a holiday и to go for a holiday. To go for a holiday обычно употребляется в тех случаях, когда упоминается или подразумевается определенное место: to go for a holiday to the Crimea.
