Такой энтузиаст, говорят, находится в постоянном напряжении и вздрагивает (twitches), когда звонит телефон, ожидая, что это некий любитель птиц, увидевший, скажем, выпь в центре Лондона или сокола в Озёрном крае. В этом случае он немедленно бросается к машине и отправляется с фотоаппаратами, телескопами и т. д. на поиски. В свою очередь, a ticker — это человек, который составляет список птиц, обитающих на какой-либо территории, и ставит a tick («галочка»), когда видит их.
