To tot up значит «прибавить». Totting up — разговорное название правил, введённых в Великобритании в 1988 г., по которым наказываются водители автотранспорта за нарушение правил дорожного движения посредством штрафных отметок, которые фиксируются в правах водителя. Сначала три такие отметки в правах приводили к лишению водительских прав, но в настоящее время (2001 г.) нужно набрать 12 очков в течение трёх лет, чтобы лишиться прав. Количество штрафных очков зависит от решения суда и назначается в зависимости от степени серьёзности нарушения. Например, за невнимательное вождение можно получить от трёх до девяти, а за превышение скорости от трёх до шести очков. -
