Глагол to see smb, smth обозначает использование способности зрения - увидеть/видеть кого-либо, что-либо, в том числе и зрелищное мероприятие; глагол to see обычно сочетается с такими существительными, как a play (a film, the first night, an actor in some play, a programme on TV). To look at smth подразумевает направленный взгляд на что-либо, кого-либо и соответствует русскому глаголу смотреть.
