When needn't is used as a modal auxiliary to say that something is not worthwhile or necessary it is generally translated by ce n'est pas la peine de + infinitive or ce n'est pas la peine que + subjunctive: I needn't have hurried = ce n'était pas la peine de me dépêcher or ce n'était pas la peine que je me dépêche.
