תִּישּׁוּעַm. (תּשַׁע) 1) nine-tenths; 2) one-ninth. Y.Dem.VII, 26c top נוטל שני תישועין ות׳ של ת׳וכ׳ he takes twice nine-tenths (of ten), and one-ninth of nine-tenths, which makes ten for the first tithe, and nine for the second. But why not say ‘nineteen? Said R. Z., ‘the words of the wise and their riddles. Ib. (read:) הרוצה להכניס … נוטל על כל תאינה ותאינה שני תישועין ות׳ של ת׳ שהן עשרים ושלש וארבעה תישועין של תאינה he who wishes to bring into his house one hundred figs available for use, must count for each fig (an addition of) two-ninths and one-ninth of one-ninth, which makes (an addition of) twenty-three figs and four-ninths of a fig (23, and 4/9 as nearest to 37/8 1).Pl. תִּישּׁוּעִין. Ib. Y.Erub.II, 20b צא מהן ארבעה ת׳ … נשתייר שם תשעה עשר תלתותין חסר תשוע (not תלתולין) deduct therefrom (from 6 2/ 3) four-ninths for the four sides, and there remain nineteen thirds less one-ninth (= 6 2/9). -
