•• В английской лексике много способов выражения отрицания. Помимо общеизвестных и обычно не трудных в переводе un-, non-, anti-, существует приставка dis-, продуктивная в словообразовании и образующая слова, перевод которых, особенно устный, иногда требует усилия. В некоторых случаях надо просто знать эквивалент ( disposable – одноразового использования; waste disposal – удаление отходов; disincentive – антистимул (или негативный стимул); the disabled – инвалиды и т.д.). Но во многих случаях перевод таких слов требует навыка. Так, примеры со словом discourage приводятся в словарной статье encourage. Интересное слово – disadvantage и the disadvantaged (малоимущие; лица или слои общества, находящиеся в неблагоприятном положении). Забавное слово disinclined (I am disinclined to do it – Мне что-то не очень хочется это делать). По моим наблюдениям, малоопытные переводчики испытывают трудности и с другими словами с dis-, например, discreet, disparate, dispense (with), disruptive (disruptive behavior – просто плохое поведение, если речь идет о ребенке, хулиганство, хулиганские выходки, если речь идет о футбольных болельщиках), disturbing – конечно, не неуклюжее беспокоящий, а неприятный, тяжелый (о событии, впечатлении) и т.д. Имеет смысл «коллекционировать» эти слова при чтении книг и периодики, подбирать их контекстуальные переводы.
