    v 1. говорить, сообщать, рассказывать: to tell smb smth — сказать, сообщить кому-либо, что-либо; to tell smb that… — сказать кому-либо, что…; to tell smb how to do smth — рассказать кому-либо, как что-либо делать; 2. сказать, велеть: to tell smb to do smthвелеть кому-либо что-либо сделать (1). Глагол to tell 1., за исключением некоторых устойчивых словосочетаний типа to tell the truth, to tell a lie, требует косвенного дополнения:

    Tell them how to do it — Расскажи им, как это надо делать.

    В русской соотносительной конструкции косвенное дополнение не обязательно. (2). See advise, v.
