1) задача

часть программы, исполняемая отдельно в многозадачной ОС. В мэйнфреймах задача является функциональным подблоком задания, или единицей работы (job). Для каждой задачи при её запуске на исполнение планировщиком задач (task scheduler) создаётся дескриптор задачи (task descriptor), стек (task stack), ей динамически или статически назначается приоритет (task priority) и она ставится в очередь готовых к исполнению задач (task queue). Каждая задача одномоментно может находиться в только в одном из нескольких возможных состояний. Задача, исполняемая в текущий момент, называется активной (active task, current task). Хотя внешне исполнение нескольких задач может выглядеть параллельным (см. pseudoparallelism), но работают они (в одноядерных ЦП) строго по одной в соответствии с их приоритетами и текущим состоянием

один из возможных нежелательных случаев в диспетчеризации, когда разделяемым ресурсом владеет задача с низким приоритетом, а его освобождения ждёт задача с высоким приоритетом, то, если не поднять приоритет первой задачи (обычно до приоритета ждущей задачи), то вторая задача может прождать освобождения ресурса слишком долго (из-за недостатка процессорного времени у первой задачи, поскольку оно будет отдаваться другим готовым задачам)
