Nota d'usoIl sostantivo forza può essere tradotto con “force” o “strength”, con alcune differenze di significato. In contesti scientifici, quando si parla di forza si usa il sostantivo “force”: la forza di gravità, the force of gravity. Quando invece si parla di una forza di tipo più astratto, insita in qualcuno o qualcosa, si utilizza la parola “strength”: Non ho la forza di alzarmi, I don't have the strength to get up; Il primo ministro ha dimostrato la sua forza, the Prime Minister has proved his strength. In alcuni casi i due sostantivi sono intercambiabili: la forza del vento, the force (o strength) of the wind. In generale, “force” si riferisce a una forza offensiva, che causa cambiamenti, mentre “strength” indica più spesso una forza difensiva o di resistenza. -
