113 Kincob
A very expensive and elaborately ornamented fabric, woven in India for artistic and ceremonial purposes. It is made from all-silk yarns in all colours with gold and silver threads for extra ornament. There are up to seven warps used and many wefts in a large variety of designs. It is seldom that two pieces are alike either in design or quality. Being hand-woven the fabrics resemble embroidery work. Mostly made at Benares, Ahmedabad and Surat. They are used for covering state carriages, thrones, Mussulman jackets, caps, etc. When used for covering presents given by princes they are called rumals, but are not classed with the ordinary rumal. -

116 Lyonnesse Pongees
A French imitation of the Japanese Pongee, and at best a rather poor one. The silk yarns used are not as rough as Japan's and the cloth is much more regular and smooth. -

A very light and fine woven poplin, all-silk yarns. It has a special finish and is used in hat making. -

A dress material of silk yarns woven with a satin face and twill back. -
119 Melange
A mixture worsted yarn made from printed sliver. Usually more than one colour is printed on the sliver in bands. A cloth made with this yarn has 64 ends and 52 picks per inch, 45's warp and 15's weft, all worsted. The term is also given to silk yarns produced in a similar way. The word is French for " mixture effect." -
120 Mexicain
A French fabric made in brocade designs of small sizes in stripe form which alternate with equal width stripes of coloured yarn. The ground is plain and all-silk yarns are used.
