(Relational Database Management System) реляционная СУБД, РСУБДСУБД, базирующаяся на реляционной модели (relational model). Концепция реляционных БД была сформулирована сотрудником IBM Эдгаром Коддом (Edgar F. Codd) в июне 1970 г. в виде 12 правил в статье "A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks" (Реляционная модель представления данных для больших банков данных коллективного пользования), опубликованной в журнале Communications of the Association for Computing Machinery. Информация в таких БД хранится в двумерных таблицах, называемых отношениями (relations). Каждый столбец таблицы озаглавлен атрибутом (attribute), описывающим тип элементов столбца. = relational database modelмодель структуры БД, разработанная в конце 1960-х гг. Эдгаром Коддом (E. F. Codd), математиком корпорации IBM, и представленная в известной работе "A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Databanks". Она построена на понятии отношения (relation) - двумерной таблицы, предназначенной для упорядоченного хранения данных. Каждая таблица состоит из записей (горизонтальных строк, называемых также кортежами, tuple) и полей (вертикальных столбцов, называемых также атрибутами, attribute).
