21 National Park System
Создана для управления природными и историческими памятниками США и их территориями для "пользы и удовольствия людей" ["for the pleasure and enjoyment of the people"]. Идея создания национального парка [ national park] впервые появилась в начале 1870-х после изучения материалов экспедиций в Вайоминг. В 1872 Конгресс [ Congress, U.S.] создал Йеллоустонский национальный парк [ Yellowstone National Park]. В 1890 были созданы два национальных парка в Калифорнии [ Sequoia National Park; Yosemite National Park]. В последующие годы расширение системы шло медленно вплоть до 1916, когда президент В. Вильсон [ Wilson, (Thomas) Woodrow] принял решение о создании Службы национальных парков [ National Park Service].
