La serie de conciertos de este tipo más conocida es la que se celebra cada verano en el Royal Albert Hall de Londres, y que tuvo su origen en 1895 a partir de una idea del director de orquesta Henry Wood. Actualmente convertidos en una institución nacional, destaca entre todas las actuaciones la llamada Last Night of the Proms en la que se interpretan piezas de carácter patriótico, entre otras de repertorio. En Estados Unidos un prom es un baile de gala que se celebra para los alumnos de un centro de educación secundaria o universitaria. De todos estos bailes el más famoso es el senior prom, al que asisten los alumnos del último año de una high school y que se considera un acontecimiento de gran importancia para los adolescentes estadounidenses.
