смешанные макромолекулярные углевод-белковые гетерополимеры, содержащие два аминосахара (N-ацетилглюкозамин и N-ацетилмураминовую кислоту) и несколько аминокислот (аланин, глутаминовая кислота, лизин и др.); компоненты клеточной стенки бактерий. Мурамовая кислота связана пептидной связью с тетра- или пентапептидами, которые образуют поперечные сшивки между отдельными углеводными цепями (см. транспептидирование). Гигантские сетчатые молекулы П. образуют жесткий чехол вокруг бактериальной клетки, который поддерживает ее форму и защищает клетку от разрушения при механических и осмотических воздействиях.
