(ὀπισθοτονος), I) eine Krankheit, bei der der Kopf durch einen Muskelkrampf sich nach dem Rückgrate zu beugt u. nicht wieder vorwärts beugen läßt, etwa Nackenkrampf, Plin. 23, 48 u.a. (griech. b. Cels. 4, 3): dah. opisthotoni, mit dieser Krankheit behaftet (v. Pferden), Pelagon. veterin. 8 (140 Ihm) u. bes. 17 (270. 271. 272 Ihm). – Nbf. opisthotonia, ae, f., rein lat. supinus raptus, Ggstz. emprosthotonia (rein. lat. pronus raptus), Cael. Aur. de morb. acut. 3, 6, 61. – II) eine Krankheit, bei der der Mensch rückwärts niederstürzt, Hieron. 3. epist. ad Ephes. 6, 4.
