    צִירְיָא, צִרְ׳m. (צְרֵי I; Syr. צריא P. Sm. 344 1) slit, incision. Pes.40a כיון דאית בהו צ׳וכ׳ as they (the wheat grains) have a slit, the water penetrates them. Ib. top דילמא … בצִירְיָהּ דחבירתה (Ms. M. בצייריא, read: בצִירְיָיא) maybe one grain moves in boiling and settles in the slit of the other. Nidd.23a הא באוכמא הא בצ׳ in one case the shape of the black of the eye is meant, in the other, the slit (in which the eye is seated), v. צִיהֲרָא.Pl. צִירְיֵי. Ab. Zar.65b אגב צִירַיְיהוּוכ׳ (Ms. M. דאית בהו צירי, read צִיוְיֵי) on account of their slits, they are considered as if they were burst open.
