1. Исследование объектов познания на моделях. 2. Построение и изучение моделей реально существующих предметов и явлений, а также предполагаемых (конструируемых) объектов. М. в обоих указанных смыслах является мощным орудием научного познания и решения практических задач и широко используется как в науке, так и во многих областях производственной деятельности человека. С теоретической точки зрения, модель — гомоморфное отображение моделируемого объекта действительности (см. Гомоморфизм). Ряд авторов, стремясь глубже проникнуть в процесс образования модели, утверждают, что она изоморфна (См. Изоморфизм) по отношению к некоторому абстрактному образу, представлению об объекте, которое в свою очередь является его гомоморфным отображением. М. основывается на принципе аналогии и позволяет (при определенных условиях и с учетом неизбежной относительности аналогии) изучать объект, почему либо трудно доступный для изучения, не непосредственно, а через рассмотрение другого, подобного ему и более доступного объекта — модели.
