Le webzine (ou ezine) est un "petit" journal en ligne à vocation non commerciale. Il répond aux mêmes critères que son ancêtre, le zine imprimé, abrégé de fanzine ou magazine. Tout comme le zine imprimé, le webzine est en général produit par une seule personne ou alors un petit groupe. Le plus souvent, il ne contient pas de publicité, ne vise pas un profit commercial et n’est pas dirigé vers une audience de masse. En 1997, alors que plusieurs centaines de zines sont désormais présents sur la toile, la signification de zine s’élargit pour recouvrir toute lettre d’information publiée par voie électronique.
