114 -forever o for ever?-
Nota d'usoPer dire “per sempre”, in inglese britannico alcuni preferiscono scrivere for ever, due parole separate: I will love you for ever, ti amerò per sempre. Do you want to live for ever and ever? vuoi vivere in eterno? Forever si scrive sempre come un'unica parola quando significa “continuamente”: Some people are forever complaining!, certa gente si lamenta in continuazione! -

116 -much, many o a lot of?-
Nota d'uso“A lot of” e “lots of” sono le espressioni più comunemente usate per esprimere il concetto di molto nelle frasi affermative: C'è molto latte in frigo, there's a lot of milk in the fridge (non there's much milk in the fridge). “Much” viene normalmente usato nelle frasi negative e interrogative: Non c'è molto latte in frigo, there isn't much milk in the fridge; Hai molti bagagli?, have you got much baggage? Al plurale, nel caso di sostantivi numerabili, molti/e corrisponde nell'inglese parlato a “a lot of” (o “lots of”) nelle frasi affermative: Ci sono molte uova in frigo, there are lots of eggs in the fridge. Tuttavia, è possibile utilizzare anche l'aggettivo “many”, specialmente in contesti più formali: Molti italiani amano il mare, many Italians love the seaside. “Many” viene essere usato anche nelle frasi interrogative e negative: Non ha molti amici, he hasn't got many friends; Hai invitato molte ragazze?, have you invited many girls? -

At home Offering a drinkWould you like a cup of tea? Vorresti una tazza di tè?I'd love a cup of tea. Mi andrebbe una tazza di tè.I'll just put the kettle on. Metto su il bollitore. -
118 -salted, salty o savoury?-
119 -true-
Nota d'usoL'aggettivo true significa “vero”: Is it true that you love her?, è vero che la ami? Non può essere pertanto utilizzato per tradurre il sostantivo “verità”, che corrisponde a truth: It's the truth, è la verità (non It's the true). -
