a имеющий возможность, уменье, способный к чему-либо: to be able to do smth — быть в состоянии что-либо сделать (1). Прилагательное able, как правило, употребляется предикативно и с последующим инфинитивом:to be able to do smth — быть в состоянии, мочь что-либо сделать.

(3).
