37 inertia selling
(U.K.) Mktga method of selling that involves the sending of unsolicited goods on a sale or return policy. Inertia selling relies on the passive reaction of a potential purchaser to choose to pay for the goods received rather than undertake the effort to send them back. The receiver of the goods is not bound by law to pay for them but must keep them in good condition until they are collected or returned. Regarded by some as unethical, inertia selling is the principle by which many mail-order book, record, and video clubs operate. -
