5 Reduced adverbial clause
У большинства обстоятельственных придаточных предложений возможны сокращенные, или неполные, варианты. Если подлежащее (Subject) придаточного предложения совпадает с подлежащим главного, а сказуемое содержит глагол be, то подлежащее и be могут опускаться.1) придаточные времени (см. Adverbial clause of time).He got engaged to her when travelling last winter. ( = when he was travelling last winter). — Он обручился с ней во время путешествия прошлой зимой.
2) придаточные места (см. Adverbial clause of place), improvements will be made. ( = Where it is necessary) — Там, где это необходимо, будут произведены улучшения.3) придаточные образа действия (см. Adverbial clause of manner)He fell down and lay as if dead, but with his eyes open. ( = as if he was dead). — Он упал и лежал, как мертвый, но с открытыми глазами.
4) условные придаточные (см. Conditional sentence)The doctor sent me word that he was poorly in health himself, but that he would call, if possible, the next morning. ( = if it is possible). — Доктор передал мне, что сам неважно себя чувствовал, но что, если это возможно, он позвонит на следующее утро.
