Su uso como adverbio, con el sentido de 'además', era muy frecuente en textos antiguos y hoy pervive en textos de carácter jurídico o de nivel muy culto, frecuentemente en la forma ítem más: " No hice el menor caso de la requisitoria. Ítem más: Cuando dejé la Editora Nacional [...], mi situación económica [...] quedó considerablemente quebrantada" (Laín Descargo [Esp. 1976]). De aquí deriva su uso como sustantivo masculino, con el sentido de 'apartado de los varios de que consta un documento, normalmente encabezado por dicha fórmula': " El caso chileno será tratado en el ítem 35" ( Hoy [Chile] 23.2-1.3.87).2. Hoy se ha revitalizado este término por influjo del inglés y su empleo es muy frecuente en diversas disciplinas científico-técnicas, especialmente en psicología, con el sentido de 'elemento o conjunto de elementos que constituyen una unidad de información dentro de un conjunto': " La respuesta a cada ítem es evaluada con una calificación de 0 a 4 puntos" (AFernández Depresión [Esp. 1988]).3.
