41 -Back from holiday-
Travel Back from holidayHow was your holiday? Com'è andata la tua vacanza? It was fantastic. È stata stupenda.I had a really good time. Mi sono divertita davvero tanto. We had a lousy time. Non ci siamo divertiti per niente. It didn't stop raining all week. You've certainly caught the sun! We had beautiful weather all week. It snowed quite heavily on Tuesday. Ha nevicato piuttosto forte martedì.It worked out cheaper than staying in a hotel, seeing as there were six of us. È costato meno che stare in albergo, visto che eravamo in sei.Was the holiday self-catering? La vacanza era in appartamento con uso cucina? We cooked in the apartment most nights and went out a couple of times for dinner. We spent most of the time relaxing on the beach. Abbiamo trascorso la maggior parte del tempo rilassandoci in spiaggia. There wasn't much time for sightseeing. Non c'è stato molto tempo per fare giri turistici.I'm going on a diet as soon as I get back home. Mi metto a dieta appena arrivo a casa. -
42 -gia (yet / already)-
Have you had lunch already? (o Have you already had lunch?). -
43 -never o ever?-
Nota d'usoGli avverbi never e ever possono essere tradotti entrambi con “mai”: never esprime una negazione, mentre ever implica una possibilità. In generale, never viene usato nelle frasi affermative ed ever nelle frasi interrogative. Inoltre, è possibile utilizzare never nelle frasi interrogative, quando si vuole esprimere sorpresa: Have you never been to Rome?, non sei mai stato a Roma? (in questo caso, si può anche usare ever con il verbo alla forma negativa: Haven't you ever been to Rome?). -
44 -School-
At home SchoolHow was school today? Com'è andata a scuola oggi? What did you do? Che cosa hai fatto? We did nothing really. Non abbiamo fatto niente di speciale. You can't have done nothing. Non puoi non aver fatto niente. What subjects did you have at school today? Che materie avevi oggi a scuola? We had English and physics before morning break. Abbiamo avuto inglese e fisica prima dell'intervallo del mattino. We had games before lunch and double maths in the afternoon. Is everything all right? Va tutto bene? You look a bit fed up. Hai l'aria un po' scocciata.I got told off for not having done some maths exercises for homework. The teacher had a right go at me in front of everyone. Why didn't you do the exercises? Perché non avevi fatto gli esercizi?I didn't write it down in my diary and totally forgot about it. It was all my own fault. È stata tutta colpa mia. -
