Сеть; Интернет Domain Name System служба доменных имен Сетевая служба и протокол прикладного уровня, реализующие возможность использования символьных имен сетевых компьютеров вместо их IP-адресов. Данная служба используется для определения информации о компьютерах сети — соответствия их IP-адреса символьному адресу или имени компьютера. Данная служба необходима, так как при поиске компьютера в сети, ищущий компьютер знает только имя искомого компьютера, а чтобы обратится к нему, ему необходимо не имя, а его IP-адрес. В самом начале развития Интернет, вместо DNS-служб с успехом использовались обычные текстовые файлы, названные hosts, которые содержали в себе соответствие IP-адреса имени компьютеров в сети. Сейчас же, поскольку сеть может содержать очень много компьютеров, и администраторы никак не смогут описать такое количество в файле, который к тому же должен быть на каждом компьютере, применяется отдельный компьютер, содержащий сведения обо всех компьютерах сети или ее сегмента (хотя некоторые службы, например wins, используют файл конфигурации, подобный hosts). При этом следует заметить, что существует две версии DNS — динамическая, которая автоматически собирает все сведения о компьютерах, подключенных в сети, и статическая, данные в которую администратор должен заносить самостоятельно.
