Nota d'usoQuando si parla di abilità al presente l'uso di can o to be able to è indifferente dal punto di vista grammaticale. Tuttavia, normalmente si tende ad usare can: Can you drive?, sai guidare? a meno che non ci siano delle condizioni per cui ci siano dubbi sulle capacità di una persona in un particolare momento. Se la persona a cui ci si rivolge non si sente bene, ad esempio, si preferisce usare to be able to: Are you able to drive?, sei in grado di guidare?
