1 Gauze
The term gauze is properly applied to fabrics in which the crossing ends cross as required from one side to the other of the standard threads. The weave is complete on two picks, as illustrated. Plain gauze is usually woven on tappet looms and two beams are used, one firmly weighted for the standard threads, the other lightly weighted for the crossing threads. -

A very fine silk gauze-like fabric, chiefly used for trimmings. It is plain weave, very open in structure and stiffly finished. -

The finest of silk gauze fabrics, and is used for mourning veils when dyed black and wedding and other veils when white; woven from very fine crepe yarns. -
13 Catgut Gauze
A special form of gauze weaving, in which there is a double crossing of the warp ends between each pick so arranged that the crossing spreads are bound by the weft always on the same side of the standard ends. -
14 Empress Gauze
A fine, flower-figured fabric made of silk or silk and linen. The ground is gauze and floral, effects are woven in satin weaves. Usually silk ground and linen figures. Made 30-in. to 32-in. wide. -
15 Imitation Gauze
Openwork fabrics produced by special weaves, the effect being sometimes emphasised by arranging some dents of the reed to be empty (see Mock Gauze) -

A cotton gauze fabric, ornamented by small coloured swivel spots. -

Very fine gauze fabric made at Tarare, France. Woven with silk warp stripes on a cotton ground. Yarns about 2/20's hard twist cotton, and 70 denier silk warps and 2/140's cotton weft. -
