14 FIFTH AMENDMENT
Im Fifth Amendment, dem fünften Zusatz zur Verfassung der USA, wurden verschiedene Grundrechte zum Schutz der Bürger vor Übergriffen des Staates festgeschrieben. Es besagt unter anderem, dass niemand ohne Gerichtsverhandlung inhaftiert werden darf, dass niemandes Eigentum ohne ordentliches Gerichtsurteil gepfändet werden kann, dass niemand zweimal wegen desselben Verbrechens angeklagt werden darf und dass niemand gegen sich selbst aussagen muss. Wenn jemand die Aussage verweigert, um sich nicht selbst zu belasten, so nennt man das auch "he/she is taking the Fifth".
