The earthquake destroyed much of the city. When the church was demolished a cave was found beneath it. 3. to knock/to pull down — разрушать, сносить (noстройки и части построек с тем, чтобы на их месте построить новые): She was brought up in a petty little house that has been pulled down since. We made our living room bigger by knocking down two inner walls. We will have to knock a few houses down in order to build an access road. — Придется снести несколько домов, чтобы построить подъездные пути.4. to wreck — разрушать, разрушать полностью, разбивать, портить ( умышленно), выводить из строя, испортить (как материальные, так и нематериальные объекты; обозначает умышленное действие, после которого ничего нельзя исправить или восстановить): to wreck smb's life — испортить кому-либо жизнь; to wreck smb's hopes — разбить чьи-либо надежды; to wreck smb's career — испортить чью-либо карьеру/разрушить чью-либо карьеру; to wreck smb's marriage — разбить чью- либо семейную жизнь Most of the public phones around here have been wrecked by vandals.
