Le copyright – terme qui signifie littéralement “droit de copie” – est une mention apposée au début ou à la fin d’un texte pour informer le public que ce texte est protégé et qu’il ne peut être reproduit sans autorisation préalable de l’auteur ou de ses ayants droit. Définie par l’UNESCO (Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’éducation, la science et la culture) dans la Convention universelle sur le droit d’auteur (signée en septembre 1952 et révisée en juillet 1971), la mention normalisée comprend trois éléments: (a) le symbole © pour “copyright”, (b) le nom du titulaire du droit d’auteur, (c) l’indication de l’année de première publication. Cette mention normalisée vaut aussi pour les pages web. Toutefois, chez les auteurs et les créateurs numériques, les adeptes du copyleft ou de la licence Creative Commons sont de plus en plus nombreux, afin de respecter la vocation première du web, réseau de communication et de diffusion à l’échelon mondial. -

1. ( digital radio mondiale)Adoptée en mars 2004, la norme DRM (digital radio mondiale) définit le procédé de numérisation de la radio AM (amplitude modulation). Elle est censée donner à la radio AM un son de qualité FM (frequency modulation), alors que la radio AM était jusque-là souvent grésillante, et donc mise de côté au profit de la FM. La bande AM émet à moins de 30 MHz (mégahertz) en ondes longues (portant sur 200 kilomètres), en ondes moyennes (portant sur 500 kilomètres) et en ondes courtes (portant sur plusieurs milliers de kilomètres). La norme DRM est développée depuis 1998 par le DRM Consortium, un consortium industriel regroupant 70 organismes. Elle est utilisée pour les radios fixes et portables, les récepteurs de voiture, les ordinateurs et les PDA (personal digital assistants). Quant à la FM, son standard de numérisation est la DAB (digital audio broadcasting), qui date de 1995.Conçu pour contrôler l’accès aux oeuvres (textes, musique, images fixes et animées) sous droits, un système de DRM (digital rights management) permet la gestion des droits numériques, en autorisant ou non par exemple la copie ou le prêt. Pour la musique, la fonction des DRM est par exemple de vérifier que l’usager a bien acheté le morceau en question, de fixer le nombre de copies qu’il a le droit de faire et de surveiller les transferts vers d’autres appareils numériques. Pour les livres numériques, les principaux systèmes de DRM sont l’Adobe Content Server (remplacé en novembre 2004 par l’Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server), le Microsoft DAS Server, le Mobipocket DRM System et le Palm DRM System. Pour la musique et la vidéo, les formats WMA (Windows media audio) et WMV (Windows media video) par exemple sont soumis au système de DRM de Microsoft.
