The term of office is five years and the President can be re-elected only once. The Bundespräsident's main task is to represent Germany at home and abroad. The Austrian Bundespräsident is also the head of state, but is elected by the people. The term of office is six years, with a possible second term. The President can dissolve the Nationalrat and appoints and dismisses the Bundeskanzler.
