Как и многие другие выражения, в настоящее время используемые в английском языке, chop-chop проникло в язык из pidgin English (смеси китайского и английского языков), которым пользовались для общения англоговорящие моряки и торговцы на побережье Китая в XIX в. Chop означало «быстро», таким образом, chop-chop стало означать «быстренько», иными словами, «пошевеливайся». Однако эта фраза имеет «колониальную» окраску, т. к. она подразумевает отношения между хозяином и слугой, и употребление её нежелательно. -
