Wörter 235 n. 31. -- Onomatopoetic formation, starting from the sound-imitation μη (mē) and with many partly genetic, partly elementary cognate agreements, e.g. MHG meckatzen 'bleat', mecke `he-goat', Lith. mekčióti, mekénti `id.', Lat. miccīre `id.', Skt. (lex.) meka- m. `he-goat', Arm. mak'i `sheep'. -- WP. 2, 256, Pok. 715f., W.-Hofmann a. Fraenkel s. vv. - The relation μη̄-\/ μα- cannot be of IE date; so it must be analogical.
